1
Preheat the oven to 190°C.
2
Combine Bramley apples with golden caster sugar. Place this mixture into a baking dish that is at least 5cm deep if it is round and 20cm wide if it is square. Gently press down with your hand to avoid crumble falling through.
3
In a bowl, combine plain flour, golden caster sugar, and a generous pinch of salt.
4
Add cold butter into the mixture and use your fingertips to rub it until the texture resembles moist breadcrumbs.
5
Evenly distribute the crumb mix over the apples, forming a mound in the middle, and then smooth it out using a fork.
6
Delicately apply pressure to the surface using the back of the fork to ensure the crumble holds its shape and becomes crispy. Then, gently glide the fork across the top to create a decorative pattern.
7
If desired, evenly distribute rolled oats and demerara sugar over the top.
8
Place the baking tray in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes until the top is golden and the apples are tender when pierced with a sharp knife.
9
Allow 10 minutes for the dish to cool down before serving.
