Combine the plain flour, baking powder, white sugar, and salt by sifting them together in a large bowl.

Create a hollow in the middle of the mixture and pour in the milk, butter, and egg; stir until the batter is smooth.

Preheat a pan with a small amount of oil over medium-high heat.

Spoon 1/4 cup portions of batter onto the pan for each pancake. Cook until bubbles start to form and the edges look dry, which should take about 2 to 3 minutes. Flip the pancakes and cook until the other side is nicely browned. Repeat this process with the rest of the batter.
